One food that many people will enjoy on a special occasion as part of their usual diet plan is lobster.  Lobster is a seafood that is a bit pricier but offers a very nice taste, especially if dipped in butter.  Those watching their calorie and fat intakes though will want to find another way to serve it up – either with some cocktail sauce or on its own to prevent the total calorie count from getting too high up there.

Let’s take a look at the nutritional information you need to know about lobster.

Major Nutrients Found In Lobster

Lobster is a very good source of high quality protein while also being very low in overall fat content as well as carbohydrates.  For this reason it can fit into even the most strict diets and serve as a nice change of pace from eating chicken and vegetables with most of your meals.

Lobster is quite high in sodium however so be aware of that before dishing up. On the other hand, it’s an excellent source of phosphorus, potassium, zinc, and vitamin B12 as well.  You’ll get a small amount of Copper and Selenium from lobster as well, rounding out the nutrients that it’ll provide your body with.

Storing/Selecting

When selecting and storing lobster, you want to look for lobster that is either fresh or has been frozen and shows no sign of freezer burn.  If the lobster has any type of smell to it, you’ll definitely want to place it back on the shelf as this tends to be a dead give-away it’s not of the quality you’ll want to be consuming.

When getting home with your lobster place it immediately into the fridge or if it’s already in a frozen state and you don’t plan to eat it for quite some time, place it directly into the freezer instead.

Eat It With:

Lobster can be served in a number of different ways but is often served up with a piece of sirloin steak or with other seafood such as crab legs or shrimp.  Many people do enjoy it with garlic butter as mentioned in the introduction however if you’re watching your weight, you’ll want to avoid this as it contains far too many calories.
