One sweet fruit that often only comes out in the summer months are cherries. Whether you choose to eat this fruit on its own or bake it up into some dessert dish, cherries definitely provide a nice change of pace from the usual apples, oranges, and bananas you might be eating year round.

Let’s have a closer look at the nutrients this fruit will provide you with.

Major Nutrients Found In Cherries

Cherries are slightly higher than some other berries such as strawberries or blackberries, but with just 87 calories per cup, there’s still far from containing too many that you can’t add them to your diet plan.

Cherries do boast 3 grams of fiber per cup and will also provide you with plenty of antioxidants to help fend off free radical damange. Cherries are also low in sodium and will offer the body a healthy dose of vitamin C.

Storing/Selecting

When selecting cherries you want to choose ones that are fully attached to their stems still and those that have a deep dark red color. While you don’t want to choose cherries that appear to be almost black or that look slightly mushy in texture, if you choose ones that are bright red you’ll be getting the fruit before it’s fully ripened.

When you get the cherries home, be sure to wash them and store them in a container in the fridge with some paper towel on top.

Eat It With:

Cherries are great eaten on their own or in a fruit salad, or they can be sliced and added to yogurt, or added on top of baked dishes such as cheesecakes, cakes, or squares.
