Me: Hi Vince, thanks a lot for taking the time to chat with me about this.
Vince: My pleasure Mike, great to hear from you. What can I do for you?
Me: I need you to explain to me why and how building muscle is the best way to burn fat?
Vince: Muscle really is the secret weapon that all of my clients know is the reason they stay strong and lean all the time. If your readers are leaving out weight training, they’re missing out on the fastest fat-burning method in the world, for both men and women.
Me: How is that possible though?
Vince: Everyone is a doubter. Here are some facts for you: One extra kilo of muscle burns up to NINE times the calories than one kilo of fat because lifting weights increases your metabolic rate, which is the amount of calories your body burns when you are doing absolutely nothing. Imagine sitting on the couch and burning double the calories. Nice huh? Muscle also puts your metabolism into overdrive, and burns extra calories up to 3 hours after your last exercise. Over the course of a year, that’s about 2.5 kilos worth of calories burned for doing nothing.
Me: Is bodybuilding and building muscle mostly for men though?
Vince: No way, quite the opposite. I have been training men and women for almost ten years. I have thousands of clients all over the world, but only recently have many many more women finally started realizing how important muscle is for them personally. And its usually because of people like you sharing this information.
For a woman that lifts weights only two or three times a week, they can easily take 3 inches off their waist and hips without changing their diet. Muscle adds a lot of beautiful curves to a woman’s body with dense muscle, whereas men usually add a lot of bulk and big muscle.
Me: But won’t bodybuilding for a women add size to her as well?
Vince: Mike, this is the biggest myth around. It is completely 110% false. This is what all the diet companies want women to think so they will buy their diet products instead of building muscle.
I tell my female clients this lesson at least 10 times a day, “bodybuilding will not, never EVER, make you look like a big man. Building muscle will help you lose fat faster, and you will look slimmer and sexier in half the time of a normal ‘popular diet’.
It is testosterone that helps men gain bulk, when men lift weights, the hormone causes their muscle fibres to grow. The strongest girls I know are also the leanest and sexiest girls I know. Women would need to quit their jobs and spend 24 hours a day eating and working out to gain size.
Me: I’ll admit Vince, I didn’t know that. Now that I think about it, I’ve seen my friends and clients go through diet after diet and the only ones that are still in great shape are the ones with some muscle that have found a great weight lifting program.
Vince: It always amazes me how some people think they can go to a gym and figure things out without a qualified trainer. Imagine if people looked at everything like this. You don’t see people going into a hospital trying to perform their own surgeries, or walking into a courtroom and trying to practice the law themselves, they hire professionals to do it. But for some reason when it comes to personal fitness, most of us refuse to believe we need advice from someone else.
Having more muscle has given me more energy to spend with my friends and family, and it’s made my life a lot better. It’s why I got into teaching bodybuilding to regular people like you and me.
Me: Vince, this is some great information, I know you’re busy so thanks a lot for your time.
Vince: No problem Mike, I hope I helped. I have to get back to my clients but if you want we can continue you this later. This is such an important topic that nobody talks about; I feel I am cheating you a little.

Vince: Alright, I will call you next week. But basically Mike, any man or woman that is not looking to add some muscle is missing out on easily the best way to lose fat and feel better. It’s the fast way to a better life. I honestly believe that.
Diets fail, ALWAYS. I am sure you already know this, but if what you are doing to lose fat doesn’t work you have to find something that does.

Great interview Mike. Especially the part about how women need to work out with weights to lose fat which is something I talk about every day with so many people – we need to keep getting that message out there until it sticks in people’s heads!
