Make Your Own Protein Shakes

By Mike On February 21, 2010 6 Comments

Protein shakes are everywhere – the gym juice bar, shopping malls, and even local supermarkets. I wouldn’t be surprised to hear about drive-thru establishments that offer protein drinks like coffee shops. Seriously, has anyone heard of one yet?

However, a high-quality protein drink that is homemade and nutritious is little harder to find. Most protein drinks today are cheap sugar cocktails with protein sources that raise a spokian eyebrow. Throw in some outlandish claims and I wouldn’t be surprised if it flew off the shelf at every GNC store from here to Hong Kong.

Make Your Own Protein Drink[Doesn't get anymore organic then this, does it? Milk mustache ads, mooove over:)]

In today’s post I’d like to share with you a strategy to build your very own protein drink that is simple, economic, and healthy all in

So the calendar has switched over and it’s 2010. You’re interested in losing weight and think you should buy the latest supplement or give a new weight loss infomercial a try.

But what if we told you the secret to losing weight is right around the corner at your local grocery store?

Grocery Shopping for Weight Loss
[I can't remember the last time I went down the "pop" aisle? You shouldn't be going down it either!]

This is where it all starts – The input to the output. The snap of the ball before the touchdown pass. How you go about something as routine as grocery shopping could be holding you back from the fat loss goals you deserve to achieve.

Here are three important strategies to keep in mind the next time you’re heading out to the

The Fight Against Fatigue and How You Can Feel More Rested

By Mike On November 9, 2009 2 Comments

This time of year always makes me feel more tired and exhausted. It’s come to the point where Daylight Savings is circled on my calendar like a family members’ birthday! During my office work days, I can remember my visits to Tim Horton’s – the Canadian version of Starbucks – increasing as the weather changed and so many things starting up again.

Fight fatigue and feel more rested
[Once someone yawns, it's like an open-mouth game of dominoes. We all fall down...]

Just thinking about all the activities we commit our time to – job, kids going back to school, fundraisers, driving kids around to extra-curriculars like hockey or piano lessons – makes us all feel so fatigued.

Je suis fatiguee, but why?

Pardon my french, but it’s one of my first french phrases I learned back

How to Break Your Boring Exercise Rut This Fall?

By Mike On October 19, 2009 5 Comments

With the NFL season well underway (Lions’ and Browns’ fans, my condolences) and the Fall TV programming schedule in full swing (high-five for House and Glee anyone?) it’s very easy to get cozy on your sofa and do some mindless channel surfing.

Beat Exercise Boredom This Fall Season[Ever had days where you didn't change out of your pajamas and wonder what the hell did I do today? Not a good feeling is it?

Throw in the fact that life is a hell of a lot busier during this time of year – school, social gatherings, volunteer commitments, or an increased work schedule, now competing for our time – it’s not that difficult to pull a 180 and return to your lazy self and stop your regular exercise regimen. Not so fast… Click here to continue reading

Eat Fat to Burn Fat?

By Mike On July 30, 2009 6 Comments

Fat loss tip extraordinaire or some old-school reverse psychology? Don’t worry, I had the same reaction when I first discovered eating fat was necessary for losing weight.

Eat fat to burn fat? We\'re not pulling your leg

Too often we hear confusing messages about dietary fats and what it really does to your body like:

1. Fats make you gain body fat.

2. Fats lead to heart attacks.

3. Fats are evil and should be avoided at all costs.

To put it bluntly, the three points above are FALSE .

We’ve been completely misled when it comes to fats.

Fats are essential for our body’s hormone production, skin health, absorption of fat-soluble vitamins, and even burning body fat.

Studies have been conducted to attempt to elevate cholesterol levels using high-fat diets. Most all of them have back

Is Water a Good Source of Calcium?

By Mike On June 3, 2009 No Comments

It’s a question that was recently asked of us here at The Fat Loss Authority and a very important one to discuss.

If you remember anything from your Health Study classes in school, you’ll remember that 99.99999% (I’m exaggerating but not by much) of the calcium in your body is stored in your bones and teeth. The other 1% is primarily found in your bloodstream and helps control muscle movements, blood clotting and nerve impulses.

Simply put: if you lose calcium from your bones, your bones will be weaker.

In a 2006 study performed by various physicians in the state of New York, it was found that the calcium concentration of water varies from 1 to 135 mg/L across the USA and Canada.

Most spring waters were found to have a relatively low calcium concentration, with an average of 21.8 mg/L. Purified

Fight Fat with Super Mushroom Powers!

By Mike On May 25, 2009 1 Comment

I recently had a fabulous pasta dish topped off with giant portobello mushrooms. Now, I’ll be the first to admit, I don’t usually opt for a carb heavy entree when dining out, especially pasta. For one, I’m Italian, and all Italians prefer their mama or nonna’s homemade pasta dishes so why order something I can get at home?

I did it for the mushrooms!

[Do you remember the Super Mushroom in Super Mario Bros? It caused Mario to grow larger along with the Fire Flower, which allows Mario to throw fireballs; and the Starman, which gives Mario temporary invincibility. I may dust off my Nintendo tonight!]

Let me explain. Mushrooms are a terrific substitute for meat as they contain a paltry 18 calories and zero grams of fat per cup. They also possess a meaty flavor and hearty texture which helps out your

By Mike On April 23, 2009 1 Comment

Now with the warmer weather arriving, it’s a great time to get outside and get moving! Whatever you choose to do this season to stay active, it doesn’t have to require you to refinance your mortgage or burn a hole in your wallet.

Lose weight through frisbee and gardening

Here are five inexpensive activities that you can enjoy to stay fit and lose weight:

1. Walking and Jogging

You can get active on your own or with a group, all that is required is a pair of running shoes, shorts, and some t-shirts. Does it get any simpler then this? Probably not, but if you want to make it more interesting, get yourself a pedometer and keep track of your progress.

2. Hiking
