Is Water a Good Source of Calcium?

By Mike On June 3, 2009 No Comments

It’s a question that was recently asked of us here at The Fat Loss Authority and a very important one to discuss.

If you remember anything from your Health Study classes in school, you’ll remember that 99.99999% (I’m exaggerating but not by much) of the calcium in your body is stored in your bones and teeth. Simply put: if you lose calcium from your bones, your bones will be weaker.

In a 2006 study performed by various physicians in the state of New York, it was found that the calcium concentration of water varies from 1 to 135 mg/L across the USA and Canada.

Fight Fat with Super Mushroom Powers!

By Mike On May 25, 2009 1 Comment

I recently had a fabulous pasta dish topped off with giant portobello mushrooms. Now, I’ll be the first to admit, I don’t usually opt for a carb heavy entree when dining out, especially pasta. [Do you remember the Super Mushroom in Super Mario Bros? It caused Mario to grow larger along with the Fire Flower, which allows Mario to throw fireballs; and the Starman, which gives Mario temporary invincibility. I may dust off my Nintendo tonight!]

Let me explain. Mushrooms are a terrific substitute for meat as they contain a paltry 18 calories and zero grams of fat per cup. They also possess a meaty flavor and hearty texture which helps out your

[Congrats to Jerry Hayes for winning the at home portion of Biggest Loser. At 64, he was the show’s oldest contestant ever. He was eliminated early in the competition but continued to lose weight after the show going from 369 to 192 pounds, a loss of 177 pounds, or 47.97 percent weight loss. Look at the intensity in Jerry's face!]

If you want to burn off fat and keep it off permanently, there are a few things you absolutely must do (ie.

Now with the warmer weather arriving, it’s a great time to get outside and get moving! Whatever you choose to do this season to stay active, it doesn’t have to require you to refinance your mortgage or burn a hole in your wallet.

Lose weight through frisbee and gardening

Here are five inexpensive activities that you can enjoy to stay fit and lose weight:

1. Walking and Jogging

You can get active on your own or with a group, all that is required is a pair of running shoes, shorts, and some t-shirts. Does it get any simpler then this? Probably not, but if you want to make it more interesting, get yourself a pedometer and keep track of your progress.

2. Hiking

Biking Tips for the Spring

By Mike On March 21, 2009 1 Comment

With the first day of spring officially here yesterday, you may be tempted to pull your bike out of storage and start commuting everywhere and anywhere immediately.

I don’t blame you since the benefits of biking (as with any endurance activity) are many such as improved physical fitness, weight loss, decreased risk of heart disease and type 2 diabetes.

Additionally, biking is great for the environment and easier on your wallet (gas and parking money be gone).

However, before heading out on your first biking adventure, here is a safety checklist to complete first:
