5 Fat Loss Tips To Jump Start Your Weight Loss in the New Year!

By Mike On January 10, 2010 6 Comments

It’s not easy losing weight – at least for most of us – which is why fat loss is always a mainstream topic being talked about on almost every talk and news show (Larry King with Carnie Wilson and Jillian Michaels last week was the icing on the cake!). Most of you reading this probably want to burn up that fat and uncover your abs sooner rather than later.

Who wouldn’t want a midsection that looks like a cheese grater?

When To Eat And When To Throw It Out?

By Mike On March 13, 2009 No Comments

I’m a big believer in preparing big meals and then having leftovers the next day for breakfast, lunch, ordinner. Adding leftover chicken or steak to your omellette the next day is a great way to spice up your meals and add variety to your food intake. But what about the other things lurking in your kitchen pantry or fridge?

The need to dispose of unrecognizable leftovers in tupperware, which by the way now looks like a science experiment gone bad, is a pretty standard business. Ditto for anything well past its best-before or consume-by date on the label. But in the absence of such information, deciding what food items are still safe to eat and what should be thrown away can be an exercise in itself.

Just how long have those half-filled bottles of salad dressing and jam been lining the back of the refrigerator shelves? And

But ounce for ounce, nonfat plain yogurt has more calcium than milk, although it contains no vitamin D. Among frozen dairy desserts, nonfat frozen yogurt is

Carrots + Exercise = Better Vision

By Mike On March 6, 2009 No Comments

I’m sure I’m not alone on this eating strategy provided to us by our parents. Growing up, I was not much ofdo you eat your carrots today? a fan for this bland orange vegetable but the words of my parents, “eat your carrots, they are good for your eyes” still resonates with me today. Taking a closer look we know that carrots contain beta-carotene, a carotenoid pigment found in bright orange fruits and vegetables that is also a precursor for vitamin A. Vitamin A plays a major role in eyesight by preventing night blindness and helping with the maintenance of a healthy, clear cornea (outer membrane of the eye). Carrots, sweet potatoes, pumpkins, mango, cantaloupe, and apricots are all rich sources of beta-carotene.
