When To Eat And When To Throw It Out?

By Mike On March 13, 2009 No Comments

I’m a big believer in preparing big meals and then having leftovers the next day for breakfast, lunch, ordinner. Adding leftover chicken or steak to your omellette the next day is a great way to spice up your meals and add variety to your food intake. But what about the other things lurking in your kitchen pantry or fridge?

The need to dispose of unrecognizable leftovers in tupperware, which by the way now looks like a science experiment gone bad, is a pretty standard business. Ditto for anything well past its best-before or consume-by date on the label. But in the absence of such information, deciding what food items are still safe to eat and what should be thrown away can be an exercise in itself.

Just how long have those half-filled bottles of salad dressing and jam been lining the back of the refrigerator shelves? And

Finding Calcium Sources Outside of Dairy

By Mike On March 11, 2009 1 Comment
I’ve been recently cutting down on diary because of some personal tolerance issues and the results have Milk is not your only source of calciumbeen shockingly dramatic. So much so that I’d like share this information on a future post with you. Back to the question at hand!

For decades, the staple dairy food “milk” has been proclaimed the ultimate source of dairy and for two very good reasons. The lactose (milk sugar) naturally in milk and the vitamin D added to it enhance calcium absorption through the gut. (For those who have trouble digesting lactose, ample calcium is absorbed from lactose-reduced milk and from yogurt with active cultures, which is also low in lactose.) But ounce for ounce, nonfat plain yogurt has more calcium than milk, although it contains no vitamin D. Among frozen dairy desserts, nonfat frozen yogurt is

Carrots + Exercise = Better Vision

By Mike On March 6, 2009 No Comments

I’m sure I’m not alone on this eating strategy provided to us by our parents. Growing up, I was not much ofdo you eat your carrots today? a fan for this bland orange vegetable but the words of my parents, “eat your carrots, they are good for your eyes” still resonates with me today. Taking a closer look we know that carrots contain beta-carotene, a carotenoid pigment found in bright orange fruits and vegetables that is also a precursor for vitamin A. Vitamin A plays a major role in eyesight by preventing night blindness and helping with the maintenance of a healthy, clear cornea (outer membrane of the eye). Carrots, sweet potatoes, pumpkins, mango, cantaloupe, and apricots are all rich sources of beta-carotene.

Chicken Peanut Pasta Salad Nutrition Facts – Chicken Peanut Pasta Salad

By Mike On February 27, 2009 No Comments

It’s been awhile since we shared a receipe here at the Fat Loss Authority so it’s time to change that trend. Let’s also say that after our recent post about the Mediterranean Dietpeanut chicken salad my mind was on food. I was recently out for lunch with a friend at a buffet style restaurant. Yes, a very dangerous place to lose all self control but we both are health conscious enough not to go crazy and besides, it was our cheat day. One thing that we both noticed was the amount of mayo-sodden salads that were available in all different shapes (pasta, brocolli, etc).

So here is delicious receipe that we found to try out in your own kitchen. This recipe calls for roasted or grilled chicken that has cooled. Using leftovers or buying a
